It’s hard to believe that in 2020 it will be four years since mom (Chris) has joined the angels in heaven. As many of us witnessed and experienced, she was her own kind of angel on earth during her time here with us. Not a day goes by when we don’t think about or see evidence of her impact on our lives and the impact of her absence in our personal and professional daily interactions.
To honor her love of nursing and unconditional support and encouragement of those who need a hand up, we have established the Christine J. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund at Monroe Community College. Mom always had a soft spot for those who just needed a little extra support; even when she herself may have been experiencing financial, emotional, or time constraints. This $25,000 Endowed Scholarship is intended to support nursing students who may have some type of financial barrier or challenge that could prevent them from seeing their dream of becoming a nurse a reality. In a nursing program, this could mean help in purchasing the necessary books or equipment, support with childcare costs, or funds to pay for required exams. Please join us in making this scholarship a reality as we look to reach our endowment goal of $25,000. To accomplish this, we’ve established the Christine Smith Memorial Golf Tournament as the first of many to come. This will be further branded as the Lighthouse Memorial Golf Tournament to celebrate her role as a beacon of love and support to those she came in contact with and her passion for nursing and a great game of golf! This will be a day to celebrate her through laughter, friends, family, friendly competition, and highlight the past and future impact of her life and love of helping others.
We look forward to seeing you on the golf course!
